Scripture:
Matthew 16:
13-20
When Jesus came to the region of
Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man
is?”
They replied, “Some say John the
Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who
do you say I am?”
Simon Peter answered, “You are the
Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Jesus replied, “Blessed are you,
Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father
in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my
church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys
of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven,
and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Then he warned his
disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ.
Luke 2:49-50
“Why were you searching for me?” he
asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” But they did not
understand what he was saying to them.
John 5:1-6
Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for a feast
of the Jews. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in
Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here
a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the
paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When
Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a
long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
Luke 6:46-49
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I
say? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and
puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep
and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that
house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears
my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on
the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it
collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
1 Corinthians 15:20
But Christ has
indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen
asleep.
