Scriptures:
Luke 4:14-21
Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and
news about him spread through the whole countryside. He taught in their
synagogues, and everyone praised him.
He went to Nazareth, where he had
been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his
custom. And he stood up to read. The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to
him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the
prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to
proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it
back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were
fastened on him, and he began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is
fulfilled in your hearing.”
Mark 8:22-25
They came to Bethsaida, and some
people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. He took the blind man
by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man’s eyes
and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, “Do you see anything?”
He looked up and said, “I see people;
they look like trees walking around.”
Once more Jesus put his hands on the
man’s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw
everything clearly.
Mark 9:39
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them,
because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man
looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

Luke 17:36-48
Now one of the Pharisees invited
Jesus to have dinner with him, so he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined
at the table. When a woman who had lived a sinful life in that town learned
that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster jar of
perfume, and as she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his
feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured
perfume on them.
When the Pharisee who had
invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would
know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is—that she is a sinner.”
Jesus answered him, “Simon, I
have something to tell you.”
“Tell me, teacher,” he said.
“Two men owed money to a certain
moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. Neither of
them had the money to pay him back, so he canceled the debts of both. Now which
of them will love him more?”
Simon replied, “I suppose the
one who had the bigger debt canceled.”
“You have judged correctly,”
Jesus said.
Then he turned toward the woman
and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not
give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped
them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I
entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but
she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have
been forgiven—for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves
little.”
Then
Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
