The Story - The Kingdom

Pastor Chris Enoch - March 26, 2017

Because of the nature of this morning's sermon, a recording of it was difficult. We do have one, but the volume is low as Pastor Chris moved around on the chancel. If anyone would like a copy of it, CDs will be available upon request. But if you want to know what was said this morning in the message "The Story - The Kingdom", simply open your Bibles and read: Matthew 6: 25-34; 13:1-9; 24-30; 31-34; 44-46; 51-52; 22:1-14; 25:1-13; Mark 4:26-29; and Luke 10:25-37 13:6-9. And then you have the message...word by word.

The Story - Test and Go

Matthew 4:1-11
Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2 After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”
Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”
Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’”
Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

Philippians 2:5-7
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God,  did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

The Story – A New (old) Beginning

Scripture:

John 1:1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

Isaiah 64: 1,2
Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains would tremble before you! As when fire sets twigs ablaze and causes water to boil, come down to make your name known to your enemies and cause the nations to quake before you!

Genesis 1:26,27
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness…” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

Isaiah 55:10,11
“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:  It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

John 20;31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
