Scriptures:
Matthew
27:32-44
As they went out, they found a man of
Cyrene, Simon by name. They compelled this man to carry his cross. And when
they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of a Skull), they
offered him wine to drink, mixed with gall, but when he tasted it, he would not
drink it. And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them
by casting lots. Then they sat down and kept watch over him there. And over his
head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus, the King of
the Jews.” Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one
on the left. And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and
saying, “You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save
yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” So also the
chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, “He saved
others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now
from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God; let God deliver
him now, if he desires him. For he said,
‘I am the Son of God.’” And the robbers who were crucified with him also
reviled him in the same way.”
Zachariah 9:9
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O
daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having
salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a
donkey.
Isaiah
53:4-6
Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet
we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for
our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the
chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. All we
like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord
has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
Genesis 3:8
Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God
as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the
LORD God among the trees of the garden.
Genesis 3:21
The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife
and clothed them.
Hebrews 10:4
For it is impossible for the blood of
bulls and goats to take away sins.
Hebrews 2:10-12;
14-16
In bringing many
sons to glory,
it was fitting
that God, for
whom and through
whom everything exists,
should make the author
of their salvation
perfect through suffering.
Both the one
who makes men
holy and those who are made holy are of the same
family. So Jesus
is not ashamed
to call them brothers.
Since
the children have
flesh and blood,
he too shared
in their humanity
so that by
his death he
might destroy him
who holds the
power of death--that
is, the devil-- and free those who all their lives were held in slavery
by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's
descendants.
