Scripture:
Proverbs 13:3
He who guards his
lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin.
James 3:8-10
All kinds of
animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been
tamed by man, but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of
deadly poison. With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we
curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come
praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. Can both fresh water and
salt water flow from the same spring? My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives,
or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
Proverbs 18:21
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who
love it will eat its fruit.
Matthew 12:34
For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.
Proverbs 21:23
He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from
calamity.
Proverbs 17:27,
28
A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man
of understanding is even-tempered. Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent,
and discerning if he holds his tongue.
Proverbs 12:22
The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in men who
are truthful.
