Scripture:
James 5:1-11
Now listen, you rich people, weep and
wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. Your wealth has rotted, and
moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their
corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have
hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen
who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters
have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury
and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You
have condemned and murdered innocent men, who were not opposing you.
Be patient, then, brothers, until the
Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop
and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and
stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. Don’t grumble against each
other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!
Brothers, as an example of patience
in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. As
you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of
Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord
is full of compassion and mercy.
James 2:5-7
Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who
are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the
kingdom he promised those who love him? But you have insulted the poor. Is it
not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you
into court? Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to
whom you belong?
Mark 2:5-7
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a
needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.
Matthew 6:19-21
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where
moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where
thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart
will be also.
Romans 12:19
Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for
God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay,"
says the Lord.
Psalm 37:7
Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do
not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked
schemes.
