Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is
the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Men swear by someone greater than
themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument.
Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to
the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so
that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we
who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged.
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the
inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has
entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of
Melchizedek.

We must pay more
careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift
away.
Hebrews 11:36-40
Some faced jeers and flogging, while still others were
chained and put in prison. They were stoned; they were sawed in two; they were
put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins,
destitute, persecuted and mistreated— the world was not worthy of them. They
wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes in the ground.
These were all commended for their faith, yet none of
them received what had been promised. God had planned something better for us
so that only together with us would they be made perfect.
1 Timothy 6:17-20
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put
their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who
richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good,
to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way
they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming
age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
Psalm 118:8,9
It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to
trust in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.
