Scriptures:
Exodus 20:15,17
You shall not steal.
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your
neighbor’s wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or
anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
James 5:1-6
Now listen, you rich people, weep and
wail because of the misery that is coming upon you. Your wealth has rotted, and
moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their
corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have
hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen
who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters
have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury
and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You
have condemned and murdered innocent men, who were not opposing you.
Amos 2:6,7
For
three sins of Israel,
even
for four, I will not turn back my wrath.
They
sell the righteous for silver,
and
the needy for a pair of sandals.
They trample on the heads of the
poor
as
upon the dust of the ground
and deny justice to the oppressed.
2 Samuel 12:1-7
The Lord sent Nathan to David. When
he came to him, he said, “There were two men in a certain town, one rich and
the other poor. The rich man had a very large number of sheep and cattle, but
the poor man had nothing except one little ewe lamb he had bought. He raised
it, and it grew up with him and his children. It shared his food, drank from
his cup and even slept in his arms. It was like a daughter to him.
“Now a traveler came to the rich
man, but the rich man refrained from taking one of his own sheep or cattle to
prepare a meal for the traveler who had come to him. Instead, he took the ewe
lamb that belonged to the poor man and prepared it for the one who had come to
him.”
David burned with anger against
the man and said to Nathan, “As surely as the Lord lives, the man who did this
deserves to die! He must pay for that lamb four times over, because he did such
a thing and had no pity.”
Then Nathan said to David, “You
are the man! This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you
king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.
1 Corinthians 12:29-31
Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do
all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in
tongues? Do all interpret? 31 But eagerly desire the greater gifts.
Hebrews 13:5
Keep your lives free from the
love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,
“Never
will I leave you;
never
will I forsake you.”
