Scripture:
Isaiah 2:1-5
This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw
concerning Judah and Jerusalem: In the
last days the mountain of the Lord’s
temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised
above the hills, and all nations will stream to it.
Many peoples will come and say, “Come, let us
go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may
walk in his paths.”
The
law will go out from Zion, the word of the Lord
from Jerusalem. He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for
many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into
pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they
train for war anymore. Come, O house of Jacob,
let us walk in the light of the Lord.
Matthew 17:1-9
After
six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and
led them up a high mountain by themselves. Here he was transfigured before
them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the
light. Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with
Jesus.
Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is
good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you,
one for Moses and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, a bright
cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I
love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
When the disciples heard this, they
fell facedown to the ground, terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them. “Get
up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” When they looked up, they saw no one except
Jesus.
As they were coming down the
mountain, Jesus instructed them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have seen, until
the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
Matthew 19:21
“If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and
give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
